the cracks in our memories can't change the bonds in our hearts
to Simple and Clean, an au post-3D Kingdom Hearts roleplay.
After Xehanort removed the chains of memories linked not to people, but to objects and events - the keyblade, the Princesses of Heart, and Kingdom Hearts itself - the heroes found themselves living in a world where they are... ordinary. Where they are highschool and college students, parents or siblings, and living in a world not too far removed from our own.
Casting his spell cost Xehanort strength and time, but he's begun to move - and not everyone had their memories pulled. How will the worlds react to the return of the darkness when the light doesn't know to stand against it?
Xehanort's awakening is at hand, and with it has come the beginning of the destruction of his spell.
10/08/17 First major site event has begun! Xehanort has awoken and he's hellbent on ensuring his plans will not be interfered with. A halloween writing contest has started as well, so be sure to check them both out.
Stumbling upon the portal, a small tear the seemed to cut a jagged line through the air, had been happenstance. It had just been tucked into a back alley in Twilight Town, shunted away where it would be ignored and forgotten. Had he been sulking? Kicking stones and whining to himself about how life wasn't fair, and how he just was never good enough, and was that the reason why he was in such a secluded and abandoned corner of the town?
Touching it would feel like sinking his hand into nothing, an endless sensation of his skin going numb. There would be cold, followed by an unease that perhaps pushing himself through this portal was not the smartest decision-- but upon reaching the other side, he would discover that the tear would remain. Returning was simply a matter of forcing himself through that same cold numbness, so what harm was exploring this... place?
This strange place that seemed trapped in time, suspended in the 17th century. A crumbling castle that was ruled by a cruel princess and a beaten prince.
This place, wherever it was, was no part of the world he had been in before.
This was just so frustrating! How long had it been? Since she vanished? No word from Riku? He swore he was going to march right up to the city and yell at the silver hair for not saying a single word. If it wasn't for Lea's words of encouragement and that 'oh he wouldn't do that', Roxas would truly believe the guy was keeping Xion from him. Keeping it private she reappeared, not that it even mattered, wouldn't even answer his own text! He was about ready to just just.. Just.. what? Explode? Scream? Shout? Break some random toy? Ugh! He was like an adult now, working no less! Damn, Leon would highly give him a dirty look for being so.. so.. stupid.
He grumbled making his way to the alley, leaning against the cool brick stone. Waves of weight slammed against him and his heart, just. Just. What was wrong with him? Everything was going better, great, right? He was learning how to be in a bad playing.. those.. electronic keys. No girl really talked to him, but things will get better. Surely. It couldn't get any worst. He was making new friends, moving forward, reaching upward higher. Reaching for the sun... In a town stuck in twilight. It was.. just.
He was a good person. He was moving forward. So why did he feel so.. so.. Stagnant? He groaned dropping down, butt slamming to the ground knees upward hands over face with a groan. That's when something.. Odd. He didn't even know how to explain it was in front of him. He blinked several times, what was this? A new illegal artwork, created by some spoiled annoying brat or something? Slowly he used the wall for balance pushing himself back off the ground.. Away from his own self pitying tearful area. Eyes wide at it. It was like complete darkness, yet light... All same. He. Wanted to touch it. Just. What was it?
He stepped forward breathing slowing down, much like with the cat ears. Just. Find out what it was. His finger gently rubbed the edge, odd vibrating sessions of his finger numbing out scared him. He pulled out shock written on his face. What. Was that? He flinched waiting for a slap, thinking of the cat.. Thinking of those monsters. The darkness creatures that. that.. What were they? He felt a sudden agonizing pain right side of his mind as if the memory was slightly hard to recall. What. Did the Catgirl... do?
The feet involuntarily moved back, his eyes opening bright blue staring frustratingly at the emptiness. Heart pounding, the hell. Was all this. This this. Hell. He held his breath sticking the hand further that odd numbing sensation began to spread out. HE WASNT A COWARD. NO. that wasn't it. Just. Not self pitying loser. Who who. Just. Can't even. Just. Ugh. The hell. He pushed deeper the sensation becoming near unbearable numb emptiness. Shit! He didn't think this through. TOo Late.
He felt the sudden numbness leave him, cold was soon followed, he fell to his knees coughing lungs in agony. Once he regained his surroundings he noticed. This place. What was this place? He calmly stepped forward observing the area, it was like walking into.. into one of those ancient castles. What... Quickly he turned around to the portal. he shouldn't be here. He shouldn't be here. This. this. Was somebody's home. No. Prison. He shouldn't at all be here. He stepped forward planning to reach into the portal, only to pause. Was.. it better than his home? His finger grazed against the numbing portal once more. Just. Was he welcomed back home? The sensation of numbing and cold temperatures in his body came back. He slightly flinched back not wishing to go through it so soon... Again.

She was there.
She blended in with the world, dressed in an old beige dress held together with patchwork bits of cloth. Dirt was smudged along her arms and cheeks, remnants from whatever work she had been doing, and she seemed just as worn down and beaten as the dress she was wearing.
Despite that, there was still an air around her that didn't quite let her blend in with everyone else.
There was a glassy, glossy look in Xion's eyes as she was walking out of the castle, heading along a worn dirt path that would -- eventually -- take her into down. The walk was several miles and after working all day it was one of the last things she wanted to do, but it wasn't like a castle maid had many choices.
A hand reached up to tuck stray black strands of hair behind one ear as she paused. Footsteps...? Followed by a shake of her head. Even if she had heard something, it wasn't like there was anything she would be able to do about it.

Maybe he should just stay a little longer, explore a bit more, wasn't like everyday you find yourself... Wherever this was, some sort of superhero comic book scenario where you walk to a new world. Everything felt depressing, besides the bright blue sky, just felt off. It seemed for a really large castle, very few people were out wondering around, those who were didn't even give him a glance. What was all this?
He probably stood out as one of those time traveler witches, or whatevers. The blonde slipped his hand into his pocket just come back to the portal before anyone notice.. Just throw some fireworks scream some nonsense be right back home. It would be like that Hocus Pocus movie, with that lighter scene. Taking few more steps gaining more confidence, he slowly began to explore the area a bit more. How long until one of those guards popped up? This was a castle after all, it was a rather.. highly undefended area.
That's when he saw tinge black short hair, the figure seemed to be wearing some maid outfit. His heart skipped a beat recognizing the hair, could it? No, it wouldn't. He stepped forward cautiously approaching the figure heart pounding faster and faster. He didn't want to approach her in the off chance it wasn't her, just. What if it was? He sped up ignoring the fears, "Xion!" He shouted unable to help himself. A sudden sense of stares growing at him, something he ignored trying to get closer to the girl.

Was that... her name?
Most people would laugh at the idea that you wouldn't know the answer to that question. It was, after all, your name. You should know what it was.
It was hard for her to hold onto it. Mostly she was just called girl, or the maid.
Her head canted to the side, looking over in the direction of the voice that had called out the name. "Pardon me?" She tried to smile, but found she couldn't get her mouth to work in the way she wanted to. It felt like her lips cheeks were paralyzed, frozen in an expression of vague confusion at the sight of someone who was stirring up memories that she wasn't sure she wanted to come back.
"Do... do you know me?"

The woman he was certain it was her, responded with a slight slant tilt of the head confusion crossing her features. She seemed pause frozen, lost, he didn't know. Her response, it wasn't exactly what he had hope to get. His pacing dropped several meters per hour as he drawn near taking in even more features. Her gentle slight pink lips, the frozen expression of broken paralyzed confusion. The way she spoke her voice slightly off from who he knew, she continued to ask if he knew her.
He suddenly felt frozen in spot, did he make a mistake? Was this her? She looked so. Lonely? Broken? Just not happy or what he was expecting? Felt completely unaware how long he stood staring at her wondering if he had somehow in his crazed state confused her for another. The moment he remembered to speak he shook breaking the trance blinking his bright blue eyes several times forgetting he was lost and confused. "It you were. You look like..." What should he say? She looked so much like the girl he knew.. Care for. That just left. Was this her? Just she looked so much a like, yet so different. "Umm.. I uhh.." He looked around trying to figure something out, anything... "Uhh lost? Is-is this... Whe-where am I?" He quickly changed the subject heart beating so fast he could feel it pound against his chest, throb against his ears, warm his fingers. Just. Was this her?! He was scared to ask, he wanted to hug her or. or. Talk. Anything.
She seemed more confused than before, but she stepped forward hands gripping the dress. A small pause came from him as her large innocent eyes looked up at him. He couldn't breath, the air caught up into his lungs. "Yes..." He whispered before shaking his head refocusing, a smile crossing his face. Who cared if he looked crazy, this just had to be her, there could be nobody else. "xion!" He shouted all the excitement edging into his voice. IT WAS HER! Nobody could hold.. hold. Just look Just like that! Exactly like that, could be nobody else. But how did she get here?
His mind ticked thousands seconds trying to understand what had happened. She must have gotten through the same thing he did, was that there all along? how did he not notice before? He just. Just. Wanted to hug her. He stepped forward aiming to hug her, completely off balanced, should she dodge he would completely lose his balance. Should she allow him to hug, he'll probably never want to let go. Just. This is her! She's here! She isn't missing, or going through whatever kind of hell.. Wait. That means he owes Riku an apology, eew... Let's not think about that.
