It's been roughly 13 years since they were created, and though many were killed in the meantime, some learned to adapt and take on more of a human form.

In terms of weaknesses, unversed have a limited emotional range. They feel things in a purer sense than humans do, and small slights and actions can feel like huge insults and deep wounds to them. They fly into fits of jealousy or rage easily, or crumble in defeat.

They cannot wield the keyblade; Vanitas can solely due to his connection to Ventus. Each Unversed would also be subjected to Vanitas' commands (if he were apped).
