the cracks in our memories can't change the bonds in our hearts
Welcome
to Simple and Clean, an au post-3D Kingdom Hearts roleplay.
After Xehanort removed the chains of memories linked not to people, but to objects and events - the keyblade, the Princesses of Heart, and Kingdom Hearts itself - the heroes found themselves living in a world where they are... ordinary. Where they are highschool and college students, parents or siblings, and living in a world not too far removed from our own.
Casting his spell cost Xehanort strength and time, but he's begun to move - and not everyone had their memories pulled. How will the worlds react to the return of the darkness when the light doesn't know to stand against it?
Events
Xehanort's awakening is at hand, and with it has come the beginning of the destruction of his spell.
Updates
10/08/17 First major site event has begun! Xehanort has awoken and he's hellbent on ensuring his plans will not be interfered with. A halloween writing contest has started as well, so be sure to check them both out.
The voice from the white-haired male was deceptively soft and gentle as the black-coated man slowly stepped out from the shadows towards the data construct. Yellow eyes stared down at the much, much smaller image of the teen, lips curved into a slight mockery of a smile.
"Do you honestly think that you're going to be able to accomplish anything? That you'll be able to awakening their memories?" The smile never left his lips as he stepped closer, eyes widened for just a brief moment before narrowing. "Or rather, do you still have faith in the keyblade wielders?"

Zola looked up hearing a voice and he recognized it instintly. Xemnas. Or Xenahort. Well a younger version of him at least.
"Yes. I will. It's going to take longer than I expected but I won't let you win. Darkness will never win and light shall prevail just as it always has. You should think of surrendering while you can. There's only so many times you can piece yourself back togerther. Next time may stick and all anyone will remember you is a madman who tried to conquer the universe. Shame when you had such potential to be a great mentor and teacher to wielders of the keyblade. But you threw that all away." said Zola.
He nodded.
"Yes I have faith in them especially Riku. He may have doubts about this but this is still new to him. Thanks to you. But I won't turn my back on them. Just like they wouldn't turn their back on me." said Zola.
Zola was trying to hide his fear. He was a novice compared to Riku, Roxas, Sora, and the others. But if it was a fight Xenahort wanted he would get it. He just would hope to find a way to at least injure him forcing him to retreat or create a distraction so he could eventually get away from the fight. He had no doubts if they went all out he'd likely be vaporized by Xenahort. Or worse reprogrammed.
He laughed. The sound, for once, wasn't mocking, but a genuine just-- laugh. Surprise and amusement both spurred it from him, and he couldn't help himself before he paused to grin at the blond-haired construct.
"I should just... give up now." He took a step towards the other, one brow arching as his head canted lightly to the side. "And if I did so, would you show me mercy? Would you take pity on me? Shall I surrender now so that you, ah... take it easy on me?"
His words poured on, soft and sweet like honey. There was an almost hypnotizing quality behind his voice. Xehanort moved closer, close enough to reach out and touch the other-- and as one hand lifted it made it seem like he might have intended to do so. At the last second the action was aborted and he pulled away, fingers curving inward as he held his hand skyward.
"Perhaps I'll make my own offer to you. Give up now and serve me. Bow to me and become a vessel for one of my darknesses... and I will allow Riku to leave out the rest of a... moderately happy, and mediocre life. He'll be left alone, untouched by the darkness for the rest of his life."
Xehanort smiled cruelly at the blond. "He'll be happier this way, and you know it. He doesn't want to remember. In fact... he's already forgotten about you."

Zola smirked.
"You probably should. You will fail just like you have in the past." said Zola.
He paused with a frown and shook his head.
"No. I wouldn't. You've damaged the worlds, kidnapped the princesses of hearts, hurt the wielders of the keyblade, and much more. The worlds deserve to finally be at peace and they will when you are finally gone." said Zola.
He paused as the man made him an offer.
"He's already been touched by the darkness. He may not remember all of it but it will come back to him. I won't abandon any of them especially Riku." said Zola.
He paused as Xenahort's words saying he'd be happier but he shook his head.
"It's all lies. He thinks he's happy but he will be much happier with the truth." said Zola.
He then froze realizing what Xenahort just said.
"Forgotten me? What did you do to him?" asked Zola.
As he spoke Oblivion and Oathkeeper appeared in his hands and he swung at Xenahort out of anger.
His response was to just grin as as construct swung at him. Xehanort made no attempt to try to block his attacks, but it was clear he didn't need to; both blades connected with a solid, invisible wall that prevented him from getting close to the other.
"Temper, temper." Silken words slipped easily from his tongue as he tsked, hand raising to shake one finger ever so slightly at the other. "Attacking me like that, really? I would think you were being rude Roxas, but surely you would know better than to do that. After all... You wouldn't want anything to happen to your precious keyblader."
He allowed himself a laugh at that. "Oh, wait. I mean, ex keyblader."
His mouth curved into a wicked grin as he let his head tilt fully to the side. "Truthfully, I've done nothing to Riku. I haven't even gone near him. I just know that... whatever memories you feel you might have awoken, or bond you might have... it doesn't exist any more. I've made sure of that."

Zola frownewd as his attacks didn't even hit as he glared at him. Then he chuckled.
"You don't want them dead. You need 7 lights to clash with your 13 darknesses. If you get rid of them you may have to wait years for more keyblade wielders. Perhaps centuries. I guess you can always go for another nap." said Zola.
He paused at his words.
"You didn't go near him but you did something to him? He doesn't remember?" asked Zola.
He paused as the realization sunk in.
"You reset him didn't you? Back into your lies and manipulation. He doesn't remember meeting me or fighting the Heartless. Fine. Then I'll just get him to remember again. All of them. No matter how long it takes. You won't stop me." said Zola.
He clenched his fists in anger and then let out a chuckle.
"You are wrong about one thing though. Bonds can never be erased. You can wipe out memories but the bonds are still there. The bond between Riku and I may be new but it's stil there. Just like his bond with Mickey, Sora and Kairi. And Sora's bonds with Riku, Kairi, Donald and Goofy. Terra, Aqua and Ven. Roxas and Namine. Roxas, Xion and Lea. Edym and Ienzo. Leon, Cloud, Cid, Aeirth and Yuffie. And many more. You can wipe out or alter their memories but the bonds are still there. They will stop you even if you wipe me out. Although I do hope I'm there to see the look on your face when you fail. Again." said Zola.
"It doesn't meant that I need him to be one of the lights." The data construct was unfortunately right, though Xehanort would never admit to that. He did need the keyblade wielders to stand against him and his darknesses in order for the final battle to truly happen. It was unbalanced now, the power having swung in his favor, but the clash needed to happen in order to truly create the true X-blade.
"... though you're right. Bonds can never be truly erased. Which should make you wonder why it is that Riku has always been drawn to the darkness. Why Riku has always been drawn to me."
Oh, but that was saying too much--
The shield that had been in front of Xehanort dropped, though it would be brought up if the data construct showed any sign of trying to attack him again. "Like I said, I didn't do anything to him. By all accounts he hasn't been reset either. You made quite a mess of things by trying to open his eyes to the truth. You should know how stubborn someone like Riku is. The only way to get him to drop it... was to make him think he was crazy."
Part of him had been infuriated with Brair, but even Xehanort couldn't deny there was a certain level of delicious irony with her actions. The once proud keyblade wielder had been reduced to a stunted shell of his former self, cut off and withdrawn from everyone who could have possibly provided any support for him. The only people he had left were the very ones whispering poison into his ears.

Zola shook his head.
"Because the darkness has always been a part of him. And he mastered in a way that was never seen before. Not by you, Maleficent or anyone else. Darkness consumed you and nearly destroyed you. But Riku fought with light and darkness in a way no one has done. Terra might have perhaps but his journey was interrupted thanks to you." said Zola.
Zola paused in horror.
"You made him think he was crazy? How could you?" asked Zola.
Zola glared at him swinging his keyblade sabers at him again. Probably in vain but he wasn't thinking very rational. Riku was a sore spot for him in a way. And there was the fact his hero worship for the guy was developing into something more. Something he wasn't really completely aware of yet.
"I will save Riku and everyone else from you and your flunkies. No matter what it takes. They deserve to be free and happy." said Zola.
"How could I?" Xehanort parroted back in mock indignation. "It wasn't like I had much other choice. After all, you were the one that decided to try to interfere with my plans. I had to maintain the status quo."
Once again the construct's keyblade's connected with invisible barriers, sparks flying as they hovered in the air a hair's breadth away from Xehanort's face. He smirked before casting one arm out, easily fling Roxas back.
"You are not even a nobody. You're less than nothing. You're bits of code that can be manipulated, reworked, rewritten, and you dare to think that you can stop me? That you can fight me?"
Yellow eyes narrowed as one arm lifted, fingers curving as a ball of silver energy. It expanded before seeming to explode-- and when it did, their surroundings changed, putting them on the streets of Shibuya to where Riku was talking with a pretty young woman with long blonde hair.
Roxas' attempts to try to reach Riku would be in vain, revealing that it was little more than some sort of illusion, but the scene that would play out would show the way she delicately touched him and the way he seemed to break, light fading from his gaze as his body language grew tense and fearful.

Zola glared at him.
"You had no right to mess with them in the first place. They defeated you. You should have left them alone. It wasn't like you were doing anything but sleeping these past two years." said Zola.
He chuckled.
"You're rigfht. I'm not a nobody. I'm living data. But if you think I'll let you change me you're mistaken. And I'd fight you. Because Riku and the others are worth fighting for. And so is peace for all the worlds. They've all suffered enough." said Zola.
He frowned as his attacks weren't getting through. Zola was surprised as their surroundings changed and he saw Riku with a woman.
"Riku!" said Zola.
He rushed forward but his hand passed through Riku like it was nothing.
"An illusion. I'll make you pay for this." said Zola.
He charged at Xenahort again swinging his twin keyblades.
"I will stop you. No matter how long it takes." said Zola.
