the cracks in our memories can't change the bonds in our hearts
Welcome
to Simple and Clean, an au post-3D Kingdom Hearts roleplay.
After Xehanort removed the chains of memories linked not to people, but to objects and events - the keyblade, the Princesses of Heart, and Kingdom Hearts itself - the heroes found themselves living in a world where they are... ordinary. Where they are highschool and college students, parents or siblings, and living in a world not too far removed from our own.
Casting his spell cost Xehanort strength and time, but he's begun to move - and not everyone had their memories pulled. How will the worlds react to the return of the darkness when the light doesn't know to stand against it?
Events
Xehanort's awakening is at hand, and with it has come the beginning of the destruction of his spell.
Updates
10/08/17 First major site event has begun! Xehanort has awoken and he's hellbent on ensuring his plans will not be interfered with. A halloween writing contest has started as well, so be sure to check them both out.

i don't like your little games
His knees felt weak as the keyblade clattered once against the ground before vanishing in a dark sparkle of light and air. Riku could feel himself beginning to sag forward and likely would have would have followed suit, knees slamming hard against concrete, if Roxas hadn’t caught him. A groan escaped him as his vision swam and he found himself gripping at the other’s jacket to try to hold himself upright.
“Don’t let them take it away from you again…”
Ah. But there was so much. So, so much, and Riku knew that he was only starting to scratch the surface of his memories. It hurt, and he wasn’t sure he really wanted to remember. He just… Life had been hard before. He had felt like he had barely been managing to keep his head afloat. And now, this…
At least the heartless seemed to be gone, though the fact that he could look at that as any sort of an upside was hilariously laughable. The fact that he had to deal with heartless at all now was just-!
“Roxas…”
The other’s name slipped from his lips as consciousness started to slip from Riku’s grasp.

Zola paused as he said Roxas's name as he seemd upset before he passed out and Zola gasped.
"Oh god. Please don't be dead. I can't have screwed up this bad on my first fight." said Zola.
He touched riku's neck and felt his chest relieved to feel a pulse and a heartbeat. Riku seemed to be unconscious. The Heartless were gone. Oblivion and Oathkeeper vanished from his hands as tears were now flowing freely down Zola's face.
"All I wanted was to help meet all of you and restore your memories. Maybe even fight alongside you. I can't even do that right. Roxas and Sora wouldn't have screwed up this bad. Neither would you or Xion or any of the others. I guess I'm nothing but an imitation of an imitation." said Zola.
He paused trying to pick him up hoping to get Riku to lean on him.
"Hang on Riku. I'll get us some help and get you healed again. I won't let you down again." said Zola.
He stumbled a little trying to make his way out. He thought of trying to make a dark corridor but he had no idea where Riku lived. As he was still getting his bearings. He'd just have to take him to the hotel he was staying at and get some help from him there.

There's darkness in my life - whichever life I've really led.
He was unconscious, asleep, and it felt like he was trapped in some sort of bad dream. Riku could feel himself floating in an expanse of nothing, body suspended in the air as he seemed to bob up and down as if he was resting on some sort of-- waves? Water? Raft?
Couldn't move. Arms, legs, head felt glued in place, eyes sewn open and mouth stapled shut. Air was being pulled through in jagged puffs and bursts through his nose as his chest struggled, heaving desperately to try get breath but he couldn't-- open his mouth. And he couldn't-- move his arms, couldn't get up, couldn't--
Turquoise eyes snapped open as Riku found himself connecting to the carpetted floor with a heavy whump. The source of his strange dream paralysis seemed to be the sheet he had tangled himself up in, and he could only make a few guesses for where his struggling to breath came from. Maybe he had turned to sleep on his chest? Who knew.
More importantly, where was he?
He winced as he began to pull himself up from the floor. For a brief moment Riku glanced down as he shucked the blanket off from around himself, kicking it aside before crouching down to roll up the pants of his jeans. The back was still torn, stained with blood, and the clawmarks were there... That... wasn't a dream? But it had to be a dream. Strange black creatures, digital replications of his sister's friend, key shaped weapons... All of that had to be the stuff of dreams.
But he still bore the wounds from the fight, and here he was now in a strange hotel room he had never been in before. Riku glanced around as he started to walk forward, looking around-- but it didn't really look like anyone actually was staying here.

Zola didn't need sleep so he'd been watching over Riku letting him sleep in his bed. He'd healed them both up as best as he could with soap, and bandages. He walked out of the bathroom and grinned seeing Riku was awake.
"You're awake! I'm glad." said Zola.
He then looks down sadly.
"I spent two years trying to find all of you. Try to get your memories back. And I nearly got you killed. I'm sorry. I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to walk out the door and forget this ever happened." said Sora.
He then looked up at him with a weak smile.
"But I could use your help in protecting everyone. Everyone in this world is in danger. But especially Sora, Kairi, Namine, Xion, Lea, Terra, Aqua, Roxas, and you. Sora, Lea, Ven, Roxas, Terra and Aqua can summon and control Keyblades. Namine has powers to alter memories. Someone must have copied her abilities or find a way to do it themselves. And Kairi she's extra special. She's one of seven women who have the purest of hearts. No darkness or evil in them at all. They were once captured to conquer the universe. But you, Sora and the others stopped them." said Zola.
He smiled only to stumble as he fell forward bracing for impact. While he didn't need sleep he needed repairs. He'd been so focused on getting Riku here and making sure he was safe he had been neglecting his own health.

Riku blinked as he took a step back before taking a seat on the hotel bed. "You said that before..." He hadn't really meant to just mumble those words out sounding quite so bitterly, and yet he couldn't stop the miserable tone from eeking into his voice.
"... I'm... I don't know who you think I am but I'm not... a hero. I'm... a fuckup. A loser. A barely employed highschool dropout who can barely manage to take care of his little sister, let alone himself, and-"
Xion!!
The words had his breath catching in his throat, and Riku lurked forward to get back to his feet. "Fuck-- fuck, I have to go. My sister, she's at home and she's probably worried sick not knowing where I am. I..."
A beat as he stared at the blond, feeling like this was a moment here he was supposed to stay something, but... but what? That he was going to live up to every expectation that this version of Roxas had? Because... because Riku knew that he... wouldn't. He couldn't. He was a failure, and all these amazing things that the other was trying to claim he had done...
It just... can't be true.
"... I have to go. I'm sorry."

Zola winced as he felll to the ground grateful he didn't skin his knees. He looked upa s Riku spoke.
"You're not a loser. You're a hero. So many people and worlds are depending on you including your friends and family here. Those creatures came after us. Sooner or later they'll go after the others including Sora, Xion and Kairi. You can't just walk away." said Zola.
Zola paused as he said he had to go to his sister.
"Alright. Go find your sister. I guess I'll fix my own wounds." said Zola.
He looked up at Riku in shock. He didn't want to believe. And he might forget. Or choose to ignore this.
"You want to go back to life and pretend this never happened. Fine. It's your choice. You just better take care of yourself. I can't protect everyone if the Heartless come back. Not on my own." said Zola.
He paused with a sigh and looked away sadly.
"You were my hero. And now I'm on my own again. I don't know if I can do this." whispered Zola.
He paused feeling sad and defeated. They'd survived but he thought he'd get them to remember. He should have known this wasn't going to be easy. Namine had taken a year to undo the memory loss last time.not even aware if Riku had left or not. But Zola wasn't sure if he had that time. He walked to a laptop nearby and typed into the keyboard as bits of data flew out of it and hit Zola repairing his wounds so his body would look and feel as good as new.
(ooc: feel free to wrap up soon. just figured zola might feel the first time to feel like this might be hopeless. He'll bounce back but he's too naive in some ways thinking he could this down quicker than it will be.)

There was something about that statement, the implication buried within the phrasing, that had Riku hissing and narrowing his eyes. There had been moments where he had been able to overlook and even forget the fact that the other was a copy of Roxas, but oh-- what a Roxas thing to say that was.
"Don't-- Put this on me." A shake of his head, a sharp inhale. "Don't act like you have any right to put any of this on me. I-- I didn't ask for this-- I didn't ask to be your hero, I didn't ask for this to happen-- Don't act like I owe you anything when I don't!"
There weren't many things that could truly get so very deeply under his skin, but being blamed for things that weren't his fault, and being held responsible for things he hadn't even asked for for two things that made him blood boil. It wasn't fair and it wasn't right.
"Be your own hero, or whatever other self-help bullshit you don't want me to spew at you. Whatever is going on, I don't want anything to do with it. It's not my problem, it's your problem, so deal with it and leave me alone!"
Riku didn't fully mean it. The majority of what was fueling his words was left over adrenaline was the strange creatures that had attacked him earlier. But it-- Riku shot the blond a firm glare before making a motion as if to snatch a jacket. There wasn't one, making it a pointless gesture, and he couldn't stop the light blush from coloring his cheeks as he stormed from the hotel room.
