the cracks in our memories can't change the bonds in our hearts
Welcome
to Simple and Clean, an au post-3D Kingdom Hearts roleplay.
After Xehanort removed the chains of memories linked not to people, but to objects and events - the keyblade, the Princesses of Heart, and Kingdom Hearts itself - the heroes found themselves living in a world where they are... ordinary. Where they are highschool and college students, parents or siblings, and living in a world not too far removed from our own.
Casting his spell cost Xehanort strength and time, but he's begun to move - and not everyone had their memories pulled. How will the worlds react to the return of the darkness when the light doesn't know to stand against it?
Events
Xehanort's awakening is at hand, and with it has come the beginning of the destruction of his spell.
Updates
10/08/17 First major site event has begun! Xehanort has awoken and he's hellbent on ensuring his plans will not be interfered with. A halloween writing contest has started as well, so be sure to check them both out.

Leon grinned as he walked into the diner. He was reopening after closing for lunch. He'd only closed the place for a half hour as they usually had it cooking before he closed. He didn't expect his diner to be so popular so fast. He was glad for the extra income too. He knew Sora might need more school supplies. He would also set things aside for his birthday and Christmas like always. He kinda of went overboard on birthdays and Christmas for Sora. But he liked spoiling his son. He was pulled from his thoughts as he heard the diner bell ring as the first of his customers were coming in.
The rest of his staff was returning too as they often ate elsewhere not wanting to eat the same stuff they prepared every day. Leon smiled as he took some orders with other waiters too. He didn't just cook. He also took orders, ran the register and more when needed. Sometimes people were sick or had to leave for emergencies so he'd learned to be flexible to help out in the diner when he could. And his staff respected him for that. He was a cool boss at least in his mind. He smiled at that and took the orders to the window so the chefs inside could start cooking. He then looked up hearing the bell ring knowing another customer was coming inside.
There was a new diner that had recently opened up, he head several of the town people talk about it. Eventually he had enough of the rumors had decided time to try it for himself, see if this place was all it was cracked out to be. He wore a regular light grey-green hoodie jacket, that clearly looked as if someone ripped off the sleeves and didn't bother to even the rips. He wore a small wrist band with checker board design, this he stared at while pushing open the door a small bell giving a ring. The place seemed slightly more empty that he'd expected, possibly due to the recent lunch break, though he didn't know that.
Stepping through he stood there taking in the various sights and smells, was that a hint of fresh bread? Did they even make handmade bread anymore? Was the bread just placed in the oven, his body structure tensed up, maybe he shouldn't have come here? It wasn't like he had friends, had little money, besides he just wanted to check it out. Just came here, checked it out, time to go? Right.
He turned to leave, heart debating on cowardly changing plans and leaving the place together. No, no he isn't a coward. He will not back down. Turning back around he walked toward the bar giving an awkward smile and wave. Slowly sliding into the chair, looking down at the wood in front of the stool, it was really brand new. Of course, the place just opened, why would it be cut or written on wood? He awkwardly spoke up to first one who walked up to him barely noticing the figure, "Coke, coke please."

Leon saw the blonde kid arrive. Seeing his ripped clothes made him figure it was his style, he was poor, or both. Not wanting to accidentally insult a potential customer he ignored the state of his clothes and made his way over to him. When the boy gave his order he nodded.
"Coke you got it." said Leon.
He paused walking behind the counter and grabbed a large coke as the kid hadn't specialized what size. He brought the cup to him and smiled.
"Let me know if you need anything else. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and the house special sea salt ice cream. Seems to be a popular favorite around here." said Leon.
He grinned walking back to the counter pulling out a sea salt ice cream and eating one himself. It had been his favorite desert since he was a kid but he didn't always have the money for it. So he'd stolen at first then got jobs making sure he food for him and Yuffie. And if they ever had any left over it'd be on ice creams. He was pulled out of his nostalgia realizing his ice cream was dripping as he went back to eating it again. He smiled pulling out another sea salt ice cream unwrapped.
"So kid do you want one? They're really good." said Leon.
He paused realizing he hadn't introduced himself and smiled.
"I'm Squall Leonhart by the way. The owner of this place. I help out where I can. Sometimes I'm the cashier, sometimes I'm the cook and sometimes like today I'm one of the waiters." said Leon.
A large elder man with deep brown hair walked up to the bar, giving a smile taken the order placing large cup of coke onto the counter. That wasn't what he wanted, he stared at the coke realizing he should have specified. The waiter was already going on about food, his attention perked from the drink toward the waiter at sea-salt ice cream. Small flashbacks of Xion and Lea hanging out eating the stuff popped up into his head, a small smile crossed his face at the warm memory.
This was short lived as the thought of Xion leaving and rarely getting a chance for such a thing, the frown came back. Though the male pulled out on began to eat it, kid looked away taking a drink from the soda. What should he get? He couldn't buy much, just enough for one lunch, that was just his savings. Once more waiter voice rang out, why couldn't the guy just wai-what? He looked up confusion written on his eyes, spotting the blue melting on the hands, really should eat that faster. A smile crossed the man's face as he introduced himself as the owner. The owner? Giving out products? His eyebrow went up, "That's it? Just give free sea-salt ice cream to customers?" He paused processing the information, smile lighting up filling with slight hint of hope. Eyes practically sparkling with deep bright blue, maybe just maybe 1 thing will go right in a long time. "No trick? No way your ice cream can beat Mr. Salty pants down the street."

Leon grinned.
"Well, I've found if you give out things for free people want to come back for more. Especially things as good as this ice cream. Think of it as a free sample. Besides if Mr. Salty Pants is that good he can handle a little competition." said Leon.
He chuckled biting into his own ice cream before placing the other unpacked sea salt ice cream on the table in front of Roxas.
"I'm sure you'd love it. I worked really hard on getting this recipe right. I hope you like it. I'll throw in a free drink if you want." said Leon.
He smiled trying to hide his nerves wondering if the boy would like it. Perhaps this ice cream was a fad and people would get bored with it. At least he'd have the diner to ball back on. And tons of this ice cream to eat. He didn't want to scare the kid off or confuse him. He was planning on a promotion with the ice cream. He just technically hadn't started it yet but Roxas would his first customer to try this plan.
What the guy said was true, though his eyes narrowed about Mr.Salty Pants having actual competition, nobody could defeat the guy! He had the best combination, claimed spent thirty years on it. Though the old man has caught lying, like the Ramon Spaghetti... Why? Just why? The older male gave a chuckle, bit into his, then placed the packet onto the table. Roxas eyed it before picking it up, the cool chill rolling off in waves. It slightly lowered the temperature of his hand, it didn't bother him too much. He slowly brought the package closer, opening it with his free hand revealing the blue ice cream underneath. He eyed the shop owner closely on more time before taking a bite.
Instantly the face sparked up before relaxing in pleasure, he pulled it up quickly trying to hide the grin of joy underneath. "Sure its alright, thanks by the way." He took another bite, noticeably a bit faster this time. He licked his lips before commenting, "So what did you change in the main recipe?" The question came out with a rather curious smile, he just needed to know. Why was this Seasalt so good? How did this thing beat Mr. Salty Pants! The guy made his specially.. Yet this Newcomer shop person just walks up with it. No wonder the new diner got so many compliments.
"Got anything else I should try?" He asked about half way done with the ice cream, practically edging to beg for more, only dare not let the other know how much he enjoyed it. That he practically craved it, possibly even get a job just for it. Lame right? This stranger made his memories feel all that better, a little bit brighter.

Leon grinned seeing the boy picked up the ice cream and was trying to appear cool but he knew he liked it.
"I'm glad you like it." said Leon.
Leon grinned.
"That's a trade secret. If I shared that then everyone could make one and mine would no longer be special. But you're welcome to come try them whenever you like." said Leon.
He paused thinking of the other menu items.
"We've got the usual pizzas, hot dogs, burgers, fries and much more. I do have a few pies and cakes and a few dessert pizzas as well as plenty of other ice cream flavors. I'm sure you'll love everything you try here. Cooking is my passion. I used to work at a diner in Destiny Islands and I finally saved up enough to buy this place when I moved here. " said Leon.
He paused with a smile.
"And I have plenty of job openings here too if you ever get interested. Cooks, Waiters, and Cashiers. Not everyone can work long hours and some often have to cut it short due to family emergencies. If you or any of your friends want a job here you let me know." said Leon.
Trade secret? Of course he wouldn't tell him, he felt a small smile at the very thought of the guy keeping it secret. What if it was some secret forbidden chocolate. No, the island star fruit, he did say was from the island. Why not try something unique? He tapped on the table thinking of the list taking the last bites thinking of the various flavors. He'll never know. Be Plankton all over again, gotta get the secret formula! The thought of the old yellow sponge cartoon story gave a small laugh leaning back placing the stick on a napkin. "Alright I'll take.. A burger. Utopian classic." Oh kind brainwashing.
He fiddled with the soda debating on when to start drinking it again, moment soda hits his tongue that ice cream flavor be long gone. This... This will be highly disappointing. "Job openings? You did just open up, guess you would have some." He kicked his feet in the chair child-like in thought before leaning forward peering at the larger figure, "Never had a job before, mind showing me the ropes?" He leaned back playing small table pound tune and gave a small half assed laugh, "Kidding."

Leon grinned at him.
"You got it. One utopian classic coming up." said Leon.
He gave the order to his chef who started making it. He returned to Roxas as he spoke again.
"Of course I would. Cashier, Chef, Waiter? What do you have in mind?" asked Leon.
When Roxas said kidding Leon looked disappointed but covered it with a smile. Perhaps he already had another job or was busy with school or something else. He wouldn't be pushy and scare the kid off. He knew others would come for a job sooner or later.
"I see. Well if you ever change your mind the offer's still open. I'll even a save a spot for you. I could probably save a spot for a month or two before I'd have to hire someone else." said Leon.
He didn't offer that to just anyone but he was already starting to like this kid. And then the kid's blue eyes that oddly reminded him of Sora's had nothing to do with. Or at least that's what he'd tell himself later.
The order was sent to the back, guy quickly reacted to asking what position, before losing some small step at Roxas joke not that Roxas noticed. Though once recovered he quickly claim to save a spot for a month or two else he would have to hire someone else.
He gave a small laugh before speaking his name, "Roxas, call me Roxas." He offered out his hand to shake with the owner's. When will that burger be done, his thoughts wondered looking past the man. The ticket was already gone, guess be couple of minutes. Once the hand shake succeeded or failed, he scratched the back of his head. "You're from the island? What did you like about it?" He wouldn't admit it, but he was actually kinda lonely between losing Xion, his brother, and his Mom. Well most of it was fault, shouldn't have been so. Regrets. Moving on.
Post by Squall Leonhart on Sept 15, 2017 17:01:56 GMT
Leon nodded.
"Roxas. Interesting name." said Leon.
He shook Roxas's hand and smiled. When Roxas asked him about the island his smile grew.
"It was fun living there. Getting to swim more often when you could in the summer and spring. The kids often went to play in nearby islands including my son. Kind of a "kid zone"if you will. I plan on visiting when I can on weekends. Maybe not every weekend. But definitely Christmas and Summer." said Leon.
He sighed.
"But there wasn't much space on the islands. So I had to come here to follow my dream and open this restaurant. And to be closer to some family here too." said Leon.
He watched other waiters bring food as another brought Roxas his burger. Leon apologized and the waiter grinned.
"It's ok Leon. We don't mind. We were beginning to think you didn't smile." said the waiter, teasing him slightly.
He laughed running off before Leon could react.
Leon frowned at that waiter and found himself blushing slightly. He turned back to Roxas and chuckled.
"Sorry about that. I hope you enjoy your burger." said Leon.
He felt a slight pang of jealousy toward the very idea of swimming often during spring and summer. There were islands specifically for the kids? He wondered what types of adventures they were having, he gave a small sigh, "That's cool, you having a kid, that is." He felt a slight pang for his brother, kids. They were both just kids.
The guy continued on with his story about how there wasn't enough space, how he wanted to expand, and that he moved here closer to family. Roxas gave a small nod, sounded like your usual Lifetime movie story, didn't his mom used to watch those? This one time she forced him and his brother sit down and watch a movie for Christmas, he could barely remember the plot. Probably dozed off first few seconds within the intro, why must they always be so slow?
The waiter came over with the food, he watched silently at the interaction, another pang. Jealousy. Was that it? No, the guy works, yet. He plastered a smile on his face, "Why are you apologizing? Just happy to get some grub!" He picked up the burger began to munch, okay the guy was probably going to walk off to assist other customers. Then, he really didn't want the conversation to stop. Ahh, quit it, the man had a job to do.

Leon nodded.
"First time someone called me cool for having a kid. I'm sure my son probably thinks I'm boring or embarrassing. Well except at meal times." said Leon.
He smirked at that and then grinned as Roxas spoke.
"Force of habit I guess. I never really had much to smile for growing up. I only really had one real friend who's like a sister to me. Then I had my son and everything changed. For the better. I once wanted to be a soldier in the army but being a chef has worked out much better for me." said Leon.
He grinned as Roxs took the burger. Leon then sat down in the booth across from him. He was the owner. If he wanted to take a break for a bit who was going to stop him. He kinda of overworked at times so his staff probably would enjoy him taking time to rest for awhile anyway.
"I know we just came back from lunch but we're not too busy at the moment. The others can handle orders for awhile. If you don't mind hanging out with me for awhile." said Leon.
First time? Considered cool to have a kid, he guess, just really spoke out in pure interaction. The guy was pretty cool, he seemed calm patient, and really almost reminded him of his Dad in a rather good mood. "Nothing to smile about?" He asked the question tip of tongue solemnly silent thinking about that lifestyle. His memories flickered to the long period without his brother, the since of that longing for others, yet reacting roughly about it. Why did everything have to be taken away?
The guy wanted to join the army, maybe he should join the army. He didn't really feel the pull to do so, but didn't they give great benefits? or something? Maybe be cool rescuing damsels in distress, that sounded kinda cool. Discover secret organization documents? That, he felt that certainly was up his alley. He thought of the guy giving up coolness of some sharp shooter to sit down and raise a kid. Kids. Where they the cause of everything going bad? No, adults, it was adults. Army shooter to Chef. Quite the step down. The guy seemed to be happy with it, weirdo. Roxas gave a small huff laugh.
This laugh was short lived when the guy slid into the booth the kid was sitting at. All hell, now he has to talk to this guy longer? What was there to talk about? Fuck, this was fun but this was just creepy now.. He took a bite quickly trying to drown his sudden panic for those "we need to talk son, your mom gone" bile in his throat. Luckily it never came, he was stuck drowning his soda, only for a waiter to make a refill before going to another customer. Crap. He gave awkward quirky smile, "Uhh sure. Your diner."
Ignoring the heart pounding in his chest, he quickly created a new subject. "Yo-you seem to like your son. Cool guy, huh?" Probably some annoying young brat kid, maybe he would be fun to babysit. What. No. He will not watch kids for money. Damn. Maybe he should get a job here. No. No.
Post by Squall Leonhart on Sept 16, 2017 16:52:26 GMT
Leon nodded.
"My life wasn't always a good one. I grew up an orphan. Yuffie was my only real friend. But then I had my son. I guess I'm just too serious as some like to call it but Yuffie and my son always found a way to make me smile or laugh." said Leon.
He paused with a smirk.
"Well until I met you. Something about you just makes me smile." said Leon.
He wasn't going to say he reminded him of his son but that couldn't be the only reason. He was genuinely enjoying the kid's company. He usually avoided Sora's friends as some annoyed him or asked too many questions. Riku was one of the kids he did like and then he grew distant from Sora before eventually moving away. He knew Sora was sad to see Riku go and that was one of the reasons he'd moved to Twilight Town. So Sora could visit Riku easier if he wanted to.
Leon nodded.
"Yes it is." said Leon.
He paused as Roxas changed the subject to his son and he grinned.
"I love my son. We get into fights like any family does. And I'm not sure about cool. My idea of cool probably isn't what he or you would think I'm sure." said Leon.
