Negativity ruled his heart since birth. Bitterness, sadness, depression, anger, pain...it became easier over time, to channel his emotions into hate. A simple emotion, albeit fierce in passion, allowed the boy to stabilize his personality. The pain never really stopped, but when he saw his reflection for the first time and noticed a human face, with eyes, a noise, and a mouth...A spark of numbing satisfaction stirred inside of him.

When Master Xehanort told him the key to being normal lied in Ventus and the creation of the X-Blade, Vanitas immediately became driven to hunt the boy down. He allowed his hate and jealously to fester, creating Unverse creatures to wallow in bitterness across the worlds. Although he despised himself for being a monster, uniting with Ventus was the only way he could escape his suffering.
[break][break]
Let's just say...It didn't end well for Vanitas. What little of the X-Blade that had been forged, was shattered thanks to the combined efforts of Terra, Aqua, and Ventus. Vanitas found himself falling into darkness once more, but instead of aggravated pain, all he felt for the next decade was an abyssal silence.
[break][break]
He didn't particularly understand his rebirth, but here he was in hub of inter-connected worlds called Utopia. Ready to unleash his rage, Vanitas realized through observation the loss of memory everyone had. Everyone from his past had new lives, normal lives. Stunned by this, Vanitas suspected Master Xehanort had a hand in this sudden twist of reality. However, after searching everywhere for him, and even failing in an attempt to leave Utopia, Vanitas understood that unfolding the mystery would take some time.
[break][break]
At this point, Vanitas assumed the identity of Vanitas Mort, deciding to play along with whatever theatrical production Xehanort decided to create for himself. Enrolling in school, the only way the boy could exact his revenge is through the inside out. So what if they don't remember the past? It would only make torturing Ventus, Sora, Aqua, and etc. that much more satisfying.

Vanitas is very athletic, his body is lithe and he knows how to move quickly. Even without a keyblade, he's a great scrapper and will gladly kick anyone's ass if they ask for it. Because of his recent rebirth, Vanitas still hasn't regained his powers of darkness completely yet, still weak from the last decade of silence. As for the Unverse, at this point, Vanitas can only summon basic Flood Unversed, and only a few at that.

Things will change as he gets stronger over time.
