to Simple and Clean, an au post-3D Kingdom Hearts roleplay.
After Xehanort removed the chains of memories linked not to people, but to objects and events - the keyblade, the Princesses of Heart, and Kingdom Hearts itself - the heroes found themselves living in a world where they are... ordinary. Where they are highschool and college students, parents or siblings, and living in a world not too far removed from our own.
Casting his spell cost Xehanort strength and time, but he's begun to move - and not everyone had their memories pulled. How will the worlds react to the return of the darkness when the light doesn't know to stand against it?

10/08/17 First major site event has begun! Xehanort has awoken and he's hellbent on ensuring his plans will not be interfered with. A halloween writing contest has started as well, so be sure to check them both out.

Something that was almost a laugh escaped Ventus at the idea that Squall could have been his step father. "I... think my dad might have a few things to say about that." Which begged the question of, which dad? Cloud? Or Eraqus? Only one of them had really been a consistent part of his life for the past six years of his life, and it wasn't the one who was his actual father.
Even Eraqus... Ventus wasn't blind to the fact that the man was distant to him, but he didn't blame him. He wasn't supposed to be a father figure; he was just the man who happened to be running the half way house that Ventus had been sent to.
He wanted a family. He wanted so badly to be part of a real family. He wanted to be friends with Sora. He wanted a chance to be closer to Squall. But--
"I..." Another laugh as he shrugged, one arm looping around himself. "I... I appreciate the offer... But Roxas would be... I don't want to make him mad or upset until I know if it's okay. And he'd just... he wouldn't be happy if he just found out about this..."

Leon smiled at him.
"I'm the parent Ventus not the other way around. Sora, Roxas, and you are all a part of my life. And you and Roxas may not be my kids by blood but you're Sora's brothers. And that's enough for me. If Roxas gets mad I'll find a way to make it up to him but I'm not going to turn you away to make someone else happy. Sounds like that happened too much already. You need someone to put you first. And I won't let you push me away. Because everyone deserves a family and deserves someone to love them and look out after them." said Leon.
He chuckled.
"So you want to come swim or do I need to toss you in?" asked Leon, with a smirk.

The word felt like it was wrenched from his throat as Ventus took a step back. His hands curled into tight fists, nails digging painfully into the palms of his hands. Everything about his stance, posture, and his body language screamed both being defensive and being scared. He was scared, and Leon was getting how this was pushing a topic that they shouldn't be try to push.
"I already ruined one family for him. I can't ruin another one. I-- I can't!"

Leon paused as he shouted "No" and stepped back.
"You haven't ruined anything." said Leon.
He paused pulling the boy into another hug.
"You are family Ven. I don't abandon family. No matter what Sora, Roxas, or other say or do. You'll always have me for as long as you want." said Leon.
Ventus seemed more upset than he thought. He had no idea what the boy had gone through and was still going through but he wasn't going to abandon him. He didn't walk away from family no matter how awkward or bad it might get.

He froze, breath searing inside his lungs as his mind screamed for him to shove Leon away and run. This situation was laughable at best and extremely suspect at worst. Here was a strange man hugging a yelling teenager who was in obvious distress. A strange man who had just happened to stumble upon the other while at the beach.
Coincidence. Just sheer coincidence. For all he knew this man wasn't even Sora's father! Maybe... maybe he didn't even know Roxas! This was how people got kidnapped, wasn't it? This was just... asking for... he was just being... he needed to push him away, he needed to run away, he...
Ventus's arms curled around Leon as his face pressed against the other's chest. His shoulder's shuddered as a whine escaped him, forcing its way through clenched teeth. He didn't want to cry, but his body had other plans-- Ventus could try to hold his breath, clench his jaw, and bite his tongue as much as he wanted, but he couldn't stop the tears from squeezing their way out of the corners of his eyes.

Leon paused as the boy seemed to freeze up and he was wondering if he pushed him too far. But then Ventus's arms were wrapped around him as he heard him whine and he realized he was crying Leon held him tightly as he could without hurting him.
"It's ok Ventus. I've got you. You can cry, vent, scream. Whatever you want. It's ok. You don't have to hold everything in. I'm here." said Leon.
He could feel his own heart breaking at the sound. He had no idea what Cloud was going through but clearly his son was hurting. And that just made him worried about what Roxas was going through.
"I won't let anyone or anything hurt you again. Not if I can stop it." whispered Leon.

He shook his head, shoulders shuddered some as Ventus felt hot tears beginning to roll down his cheeks. "I- I ru-ruined hu-home for hu-him..." Everyone could deny it and claim that no, it wasn't him, it was just happenstance, but Ventus knew better. Roxas' own decline had coincided with his twin being sent away and deep down inside Ventus knew he would have done so much better if he had the support of his brother like he was supposed to have.
"I du-didn't... mu-mean tu-to... M-- su-sorry..." Words muffled as Ventus simply pressed his face against Leon's chest, still fighting against himself to keep from letting out the shrieks that were bubbling up inside of his throat.
His fingers drummed against the other's back before he made a vain attempt to try to push Leon away. It wasn't because he was tired of being hugged, but the realization that they were in public was beginning to sink beneath his skin. Ventus felt like he wanted to be swallowed up by the earth or crawl into a dark hole until the moment, and the feelings, passed.

"You kids were going through more than most kids had to deal with. It's not your fault anymore than it's Roxas's. There's no blame here. You two can still work this out. Be a family. All of us." said Leon.
He knew Ventus was upset and he held him closer. He then tried to push away but Leon smiled.
"It's ok. No one's paying attention. They're off swimming, tanning, eating, or just goofing off. They're all wrapped in their own little worlds. It's just you and me here. If you want just pretend none of them are here. Just focus on me." said Leon.

Be a family... but he already had a family. Aqua and Terra, his sister and brother. Was he an awful person for thinking that they were better siblings than Roxas? That they had been there for him through more than he had ever been? Probably, even though it was true.
It wasn't a fair comparison, though. You couldn't really say one person wasn't there when they hadn't been given the chance. Roxas had been taken away -- and Sora, he hadn't even been offered the opportunity. Aqua and Terra had been shunted into the role of caretaker when Ventus had need someone the most and Ventus had flung himself onto them wholeheartedly, clinging desperately to them.
It wasn't fair.
"What..." Ventus sniffed, reaching up to rub at his eyes (and surreptitiously wipe the tears from his cheeks). "What if... Roxas doesn't want to be a family?" The few moments he had taken had helped him calm down, allowing him to reclaim some level of composure.
"I... And whu-what about Su-sora?"

Leon smiled at him.
"I'm sure he does. He may just be hurt that you needed someone else to pull yourself out of it. If you were in your father or Roxas's place and had a family member who shut down and had to go somewhere else to get better would you be happy about that? They probably feel guilty they couldn't help you more or that they weren't enough. All of you are hurting in different ways. Sora, Yuffie and I can help you guys if you guys let us." said Leon.
He chuckled as he thought of Sora.
"Are you kidding? When he found out about the two of you it was all he could talk about. We moved here so he could get to know you guys. He left behind most of his friends although a couple moved to Shibuya. But he wants to get to know both of you. And I do too. But don't expect this to be like it was before. Too much has happened and none of you are the same people. Just try to move forward and do something new. Eat meals together, watch movies together. You just have to make the first step and keep trying. Because family is worth fighting for. Even if its painful at first." said Leon.
He smiled at him.
"And I want to fight for this one. What about you?" said Leon.

Maybe Sora could help (and Ventus couldn't even really process the idea of Squall or Yuffie since the one still seemed like a stranger and the other... well, he had no idea who she was) but Ventus had an equally sinking feeling that Roxas would just view it as being ganged up on. That Sora, or Ventus, was picking sides and it wasn't his side that was being picked. It wasn't... true that wasn't the case that wasn't what Ventus wanted but...
"Muh-maybe..." He mumbled the words out before sniffing, wiping at his cheeks at he did. The blond wasn't really good at hiding his doubts though, and it easily colored his tone.
Blue eyes blinked and he found himself looking up at Squall for a moment before squirming uncomfortable. What did he want? His family, of course. Despite everything he had done, Ventus truly did want to be with his family again. But was he willing to fight for it?
"I... dunno." It felt shameful to say that, but it would have been worse to lie. Ventus swallowed hard after that. "Wh-what if that just... mu-makes Roxas angrier? I... I don't wanna... do that."

Leon smiled listening to him. He
"Yes maybe." said Leon.
He heard Ventus speak again and he nodded.
"This isn't going to be fixed easily. Feelings were hurt after your parents split up. You, Roxas and your dad are all hurting. And if things keep going as they are you'll keep drifting apart. And I don't think you want that do you?" said Leon.
He paused for a moment and continued.
"He may get mad and it may get difficult but family is worth fighting for. No family is perfect. It won't always be happy and fun. Families fight for various reasons. Sibling rivalry, breaking rules, getting into fights. But the love is always there. Don't forget that. Your brother and father love you and you love them. It's just been buried under all this pain and anger. That all of you need to start trying to let go so you can move forward. You've got some help and Roxas might be trying to ignore it. Or he may blame himself because you couldn't turn to him. You had to turn to strangers to help you and I'm sure that was hard for your father and brother to send you away but they did to because they wanted you to get better." said Leon.
He didn't know all the details just some of the basics. He wasn't Ventus's doctor or father after all. That information was usually kept confidential but he still wanted to help his newly extended family. In his eyes Cloud, Ventus and Roxas were as much family to him as Yuffie and Sora. And he wanted them all to one day be happy and together. It just would take time. You couldn't just snap your fingers and fix all your problems like magic. No matter how often you wished you could.
