to Simple and Clean, an au post-3D Kingdom Hearts roleplay.
After Xehanort removed the chains of memories linked not to people, but to objects and events - the keyblade, the Princesses of Heart, and Kingdom Hearts itself - the heroes found themselves living in a world where they are... ordinary. Where they are highschool and college students, parents or siblings, and living in a world not too far removed from our own.
Casting his spell cost Xehanort strength and time, but he's begun to move - and not everyone had their memories pulled. How will the worlds react to the return of the darkness when the light doesn't know to stand against it?

10/08/17 First major site event has begun! Xehanort has awoken and he's hellbent on ensuring his plans will not be interfered with. A halloween writing contest has started as well, so be sure to check them both out.
Ventus currently lives in Twilight Town with Aqua and Terra. As far as he can remember, he suffered from a mental breakdown when he was 13 that resulted in his stopping speaking, and it caused him to be taken away from his family.

Coming back to the islands to visit his family was always a bit strange for Ventus. To start with-- they were his family, even if he hadn't grown up knowing his half-brother Sora. Leon wasn't his dad, and being around him was a bit uncomfortable... but the blond did his best to try to ignore it. Or... his best to try to just ignore him.
Not that he could really blame the man. Ventus was just one of the living reminders of Aerith's unfaithfulness...
Still-- Sora was his brother and, strange as it was to visit him, Ventus found the happy-go-lucky brunet's attitude incredibly infectious and near-impossible to ignore. Even when the blond felt like he wanted to curl up into himself and sink into the floor, Sora seemed to manage to be able to draw him out and help him feel comfortable. It was something that Ventus could appreciate.
More than appreciate, honestly. He wished he had known Sora growing up; it would have made this far more comfortable, and would have probably saved Ventus from the deep depression he had slipped into. Though... that would have meant never meeting Aqua and Terra...
Ventus shifted awkwardly from foot to foot as he knocked on the front door of the small island house, waiting for someone to answer. He knew it was probably unlocked and that he could have probably just gone on, but that was crossing a line that he just-- wasn't at yet.

Finding out that it wasn't just him and his dad in the family was one of the best things that could've happened to him. Not only did he actually have brothers, but he had TWO of them. Some people would find it a little weird that he was so excited over brothers that came from an affair but... well Sora didn't care. He really didn't! It was awesome to know that he wasn't the only one and after Riku moving away... well it'd been tough. Plus there was the chance of his dad having to move at any time.
Not exactly the ideal for growing up.
Today Ventus was coming HERE! To his home! They would be able to hang out and eat ice-cream and... and... just able to do things that brothers would do! But... what exactly was it that brothers did? It was hard since this was the first brother he'd ever had so what if he made a wrong move and Ventus really didn't like him? No way. There wasn't any chance of that since siblings disagreed sometimes and whatever so everything was absolutely going to be fine!
When there was a knock on the door, Sora jumped up and nearly fell off his bed in excitement before dashing down to the living room. He might have only met Ventus a little while ago but it felt like they'd known each other for ages? No that was wrong maybe... well he wasn't entirely sure. To him it just felt comfortable to be around him and Roxas. Eh it didn't matter. It was probably just him anyway!
Finally reaching the door he would rip the door open with a huge grin on his face, especially after seeing the person he was waiting for just outside. This was actually happening. It was real. He was going to be spending the next little while with his brother. HIS brother!
"Hey there! Come on in!" Still full of energy he'd move to the side giving Ventus a bit of space to actually come inside the house which was probably a good idea.

Ventus offered Sora a smile in return. His expression wasn't quite as enthuasiastic as the other's, but he was doing his best to try to match his energy level. He was excited and he was happy, he really was! Sometimes it was just hard to really show that when it felt like his words wanted to cement themselves in his mouth and his throat wanted to glue itself shut.
"I know Dad invited Roxas but... pretty sure he bailed or said no or... something." Something that probably involved a middle finger, knowing his twin. Ventus didn't blame him. Their family situation had turned rocky and not everyone could handle it the same way. Ventus himself hadn't really handled it all that great, what with retreating into himself and deciding that talking was no longer a necessary function. Being angry at least was still communicating.
The blond smiled awkwardly before glancing around the small home. Strange to think he could have grown up here instead... Maybe that was why it felt oddly familiar?
"So, um... do you have anything planned or...?" Honestly he would have been happy with just sitting around and just watching some old movies, but Sora didn't strike him at the type to be content with just sitting.

Had he come on a bit too strong? Again? There had been some times when the people around him took a couple of steps back for a reason that Sora had never been able to understand. Very few people found a way to keep up with how he did things, the exceptions to that being the people close to him like Kairi, his dad and Yuffie. Riku used to be able to but... nah that wasn't important right now! After all this was the time when he should've been making Ventus feel welcome!
"That's OK!" Although it really wasn't. He'd been hoping to meet Roxas today as well but at least both of them hadn't bailed. That would've really put a damper on his spirits. "It can't be easy finding out you have more family right? I mean I'm psyched about it but I guess not everyone is huh?" As long as someone had come around then that was great! Roxas probably had his own reasons. One day Sora was gonna find a way to get the other twin to open up to him.
Uh did he have anything planned? Truthfully Sora had been hoping that Ventus had some ideas or.... something. 'Cause truth be told if he was given a choice then the brunette would be trying to take his brother out to explore the islands which might not be the sort of thing that the other boy liked to do? Wow he was really overthinking this today.
"Nope. I hadn't thought of anything since... uh I thought you'd prefer to pick? Plus it helps me to get to know you!" He put his hands behind his head and gave the blonde a grin. If they had something in common that would be absolute amazing and he was honestly hoping that it would happen.

The strange thing was that, if Ventus had grown up with Sora, he didn't doubt that he would be just like the brunet. Bubbly, energetic, rambunctious-- all the things that he had been prior to learning about his mother's affair. He had always been the brighter, more vibrant of the two twins, and he would have loved Sora. Roxas was more of a foil to him and he probably would have had more in common with Sora... but things didn't turn out neat and tidy.
Maybe if his mom had just been honest instead of trying to hide it and it hadn't just been some awful, awful surprise that felt like it was ripping his family apart-!
It wasn't Sora's fault though.
He smiled before nodding. "It's okay. Maybe you can meet Aqua and Terra soon too... they're, um..." Foster siblings? Technically, yes, but the term foster felt like such an ugly word. Saying they were just friends felt like he was downplaying his relationship with them too much as well. "They're two of the people I live with right now and they're really great. Aqua's going to school to study to be a teach and she's going to be so great at it and I think you'd love them!"
There was an obvious shift in his demenour when he spoke about them, a brightness that shifted into his tone, and Ventus paused before smiling and shrugging at Sora. "Um-- I know there's the island that's close by. I've never been there...?"
Such a dangerous place now, unknown to both of them. The islands held the locked remains of the Door that once connected Destiny Islands to other worlds and, in turn, the only reminder that it wasn't a true island but in fact another world. Normally it was fine but step to close to the Secret Spot or, worse, dare to actually enter, and Xehanort's guard dogs would be quick to put an end to any hapless explorers.
(I'm planning on just having this NPC sit in a 'holding' pattern until this thread moves further along.)
