the cracks in our memories can't change the bonds in our hearts
Welcome
to Simple and Clean, an au post-3D Kingdom Hearts roleplay.
After Xehanort removed the chains of memories linked not to people, but to objects and events - the keyblade, the Princesses of Heart, and Kingdom Hearts itself - the heroes found themselves living in a world where they are... ordinary. Where they are highschool and college students, parents or siblings, and living in a world not too far removed from our own.
Casting his spell cost Xehanort strength and time, but he's begun to move - and not everyone had their memories pulled. How will the worlds react to the return of the darkness when the light doesn't know to stand against it?
Events
Xehanort's awakening is at hand, and with it has come the beginning of the destruction of his spell.
Updates
10/08/17 First major site event has begun! Xehanort has awoken and he's hellbent on ensuring his plans will not be interfered with. A halloween writing contest has started as well, so be sure to check them both out.

This is an open thread but! please ask before just hopping in. Mostly so we can start to talk about what'll happen <3
She was hiding away, curled up in the corner of one of the tunnels that threaded through the strange town she was in. The place seemed bereft of activity making it seem unlikely she would be bothered, and it gave the pale-haired woman a chance to bury her face in her arms as she didn't quite cry, but-- perhaps that was only because she was no longer certain she could.
Running off to lick her wounds (metaphorically, not in any sort of literal sense) was something that Y'shtola needed to do. It wasn't dignified to sulk, to curl into herself and allow herself the luxury of a session of self pity, but the meeting with the two young men from this world had made it clear to her just how far away from home she was. Home. A place trapped in darkness and swallowed up by sleep. A place that she needed to rescue.
Her and her alone.
It was a monumental task and it hadn't been so much placed as it had been dumped on her shoulders. She was strong but this... this was beyond her. This would be beyond anyone. Except for them. If they were here...
Gods above, she could only hope and pray the Warrior of Light had escaped and was still alive.
She heard the sound of approaching footsteps long and groaned, shifting to uncurl herself from the balled up position she had allowed herself to slip into. "Lurking in the shadows and spying on me is not something I can say I appreciate currently." Her tone was clipped as she stood, ears flat and tail held still by her left.

Zola made his way through the tunnels. He was wearing his regular black cloak. He hadn't thought to disguise his appearance here thinking no on e used the tunnels. He'd arrived here through a corridor of darkness. He was grateful being a data from of roxas he could use many of the real roxas's abilities. They came in handy for traveling the worlds and through the various towns here. He wasn't even aware he was alone until he heard a voice. He saw the strange yet beautiful girl and he waved.
"I'm sorry. I didn't think anyone used these tunnels anymore. I didn't even know you were here. I wasn't spying. Honest. I hope I didn't scare you." said Zola.
First Riku, then that scientist and now this girl with cat ears. He was meeting a lot of different people here. He smiled sheepishly at her.

'Yoshi you can't just tell people they don't have hearts'
Lack of eyesight meant that she wasn't able to recognize him as being the same teen that had chased her off before (at least, in appearance). By looks, at least, but her ears twitched before pressing flat against her skull. "Did you follow me here?" Indignation lined with a hint of both hurt and fury as she stood, struggling against baring her teeth as she took a step towards her. As she did, one hand slipped back so that her fingers could brush along the surface of Truth Seeker.
-- he's just a child. A thought coupled with a heavy sigh, and a sag of her shoulders. Her own sore feelings were no reason to try to lash out at anyone, least of all a child.
"Please, go-"Away would have been the word to finish her statement, but it was swallowed up by a strange realization as Y'shtola fully caught 'sight' of the other. Sightless eyes blinked as her head canted to the side, tail swaying lightly behind her. His voice was the same, but... "... your light." The heart that had been bound inside the child's chest, broken and held together by chains--

Zola sighed.
"I already told you I didn't." said Zola.
He paused as she said his light and he smiled sadly.
"I don't know you know that but it's true. I don't really have light or darkness in me. Because I'm not real. I'm a data projection of a journal used by one of the Wielders of the Keyblade. I took the form of his nobody. You might have heard of them here. Sora and Roxas. I go by Zola now to try to avoid confusion. I know there's another boy name Ventus who looks like me too." said Zola.
He paused realizing she was staring at him and not at the same time.
"You're blind. You can't see regularly so you have a different sight right? That's how you can look into my heart." said Zola.

'Yoshi you can't just tell people they don't have hearts'
Blind eyes blinked as Y'shtola's face scrunched up in confusion. The name Roxas was familiar, and she couldn't say it was one she was happy to hear again so soon, but Sora? Roxas? Data projection...? Keyblade..."A... like... the Allaghans..." It wasn't a word that she expected him to know; just more a way for her to try to put it into terms that she could understand.
"You're... a construct? Like a... gollum? Or a projection?" She stepped forward, head darting slightly to the side as she reached out. Without any heart light to go off of, for once she found herself experiencing what it was like to be truly blind, and her actions were cautious and ginger as her fingers brushed against the front of what felt like fabric.
If she hadn't just been told that it wasn't real, she wouldn't have suspected anything. Not from what she felt, at least.
"You... You know about the keyblade wielders?" There was an edge of excitement in her tone as pale eyes shifted. "Others I spoke to seemed to not know what I meant when I asked, and this world now... I confess I'm at a loss as to what to make of it. The people here seem... trapped in themselves."
Y'shtola blinked before nodding. "I lost my eyesight... I'd rather not talk about that but... yes. As a side effect I can see... Where I'm from, we call it the Aether but I've learned you call it Light here. Or... Heart?"

Zola looked at her oddly.
"The who?" asked Zola.
He nodded.
"I'm a being of data. The second that I know of made from a journal. I don't know what happened to the other one. I hope's still okay." said Zola.
He had no idea if Data Riku, Data sora or anyone from the first journal were still alive. The journal had been wiped again after it had been repaired. So maybe there was hope that they were still inside or had escaped.
Zola nodded.
"Yes. I took my form after Roxas like I said." said Zola.
He sighed.
"People in this town were taken from their homes and worlds. Their memories were altered so they believe this world exists. They don't remember Keyblades, the Organization, the Heartless, the Nobodies, the Unversed, other worlds. Nothing. They only know of this world and the false memories created for them here. I tried to get someone to remember and it ended up bringing Heartless to attack us. We barely survived and he had doubts. I made it my mission to restore everyone's memories here and save the worlds from Xenahort and his allies. But I don't know how." said Zola.
Zola listened to her and nodded.
"I see. That's a useful ability to have. Sensing someone's heart. Tell me can you sense captured hearts like ones taken by the Heartless? Or stored somewhere? There was a keyblade that held the hearts of six of the Princesses of Heart. They were restored thankfully but if similar items or magic can steal their hearts you'd be able to find it faster than most of us would." said Zola.

A being of data. Of information. "So a projection." And yet, one of the most advanced projections she had ever seen-- metaphorically speaking. She had been able to feel him, something that shouldn't have been possible. "This... technology. It's more advanced than anything I've experienced before."
She found herself relaxing as she moved to take her seat again, tail curling slightly around herself as her ears twitched. "If you're modeled after him, then do you have any opinions on the fact that I'm not entirely... I believe that word you would use is... human?" Hyur was the term used on her world, but she had picked up during her time in the sleeping realms that it wasn't a constant. Human. Humes.
Y'shtola ran her tongue over her lips as she pulled her legs up, settling herself into a comfortable seated position as she listened to his story. "I... see... I... can't say I fully understand most of what you're speaking over. Heartless and the keyblade, yes, but... I don't know of anything else. Whatever they are, the... nobodies, the organization, they never came to... my world."
One hand reached up to idly pushed back a stray piece of white hair, and the gesture was followed by a light laugh. "Where it to work in such a way... but no. I cannot sense another's heart in such a fashion, merely just see them. But I can see that... there are some who seem to be wrapped up in... chains, almost. Is this what you speak up? The magic that has sealed their thoughts from them?"
Post by Data Roxas/Zola on Oct 10, 2017 22:56:05 GMT
Zola nodded.
"Kind of. I can get hurt. I guess I'm just made of data more than flesh and blood." said Zola.
Zola grinned at her.
"Well I'm not entirely human either. I don't know what Roxas thinks of you. But I think you're incredible. So because of your ears is your hearing enhanced too? Like you could hear things better or from further away?" asked Zola curious.
Zola shrugged.
"So your memories weren't erased by this spell or you'd have no idea about any of the things i'm talking. Unless only part of your memories were rease. But I don't know if that's possible. Maybe none of the bad guys had attacked your world yet." said Zola.
Zola nodded.
"That's it exactly. People's memories are made of chains. Namine a girl here coudl take apart chains of memories and rearrange them to entirely new ones. It seems this spell or whatever duplicated it somehow. Or find a way to do it without Namine.' said Zola.

Her expression dimmed at the mention of her world being attacked. "Maybe they haven't attacked your world yet..." She found herself giving a slight shake of her head in response to that, shoulders hunching forward slightly.
"Where that to be the truth..."
A heavy swallow, a shaky exhale, and a shake of her head. "Whatever has happened here, I don't believe it's involved my world. Which leads me to wonder if my presence here is a mistake. Unplanned, at the very least."
And they could continue to spend more time discussing the merits of this, or the meaning behind it-- or they could simply move foward into discussion action.
Y'shtola's legs uncurled as she slipped off the edge of the ledge she had been sitting on. "I need the help of the keyblade wielders in order to save my world. You need the help of those unaffected by this memory ward in order to break this spell. Clearly it seems like we're in need of each other's aid if we both wish to accomplish our goals."
Post by Data Roxas/Zola on Oct 13, 2017 22:55:11 GMT
Zola smiled.
"Or you came at just the right time. I don't think I can do this on my own. And I know if something happened to me at least you'd be there to help. These people need their memories back. Or all the worlds will fall to darkness and Xenahort. And we can't let that happen." said Zola.
Zola nodded.
"I'd like to help any way I can. If necessary I could even open a corridor of darkness to your world but I worry about not being able to return once we do. So probably better to get at least some of them to remember so they can help both of us." said Zola.

She smiled wanly in response to his offer before shaking her head. "I appreciate the offer, but I fear it would be wasted effort. My world... there would be no place for you to take me to. Not... at this moment."
Goddess, it hurt to even just say those words. To acknowledge to another that her world was gone. Y'shtola could feel her chest constricting and a lump beginning to grow in her throat and she knew, were she not careful, that what she was feeling could easily wind up overwhelming her and spilling out. No. Not now. It wasn't... his responsibility to try to take care of her and her feelings, after all, or to worry about the damage that had been done to her world. It was Y'shtola's duty and hers alone.
A deep breath.
"It's something that can be worried about at a later time. For the moment though, I wonder how it is that I could help you. I might be able to recognize those that have had their hearts bound but... I could guess that making any overt attempts to approach them would end poorly. What is it that you would want me to do?"
She could watch them. Observe what they did and make sure they were 'okay', though Y'shtola wasn't sure if harm could even come to them here. At least not... any outward harm. But that wouldn't progress with the other's goal and, in turn, wouldn't do anything to help her.

Zola frowned.
"I thought the worlds were restored when Sora sealed the keyholes. There were a few that were sleeping but I'm sure they fixed that too. How is your world still gone?" asked Zola, confused.
He smiled.
"We need to try to trigger their memories. I tried talking to Riku and I think I triggered something. But the Heartless showed up. I'm not sure if you can sense them. They're creatures that steal hearts and those stolen hearts turn into mor heartless. The bodies of the victims left behind are turned into other creatures named Nobodies. The good news is when a Heartless and Nobody are destroyed their original person is restored. So victims aren't gone for good." said Zola.
He sighed.
"But he had his doubts and left. This has been more challenging than I thought. I want to help them but if I have powers over memory I can't really unlock them." said Zola.

Interesting. Y'shtola pressed her lips together as she nodded. Standing still was starting to become a difficulty for her and thus began the pacing, a simple turn back and forth through a small section of the underground tunnels. "So I see-- and yet you yourself have said that the people here have had their memories and hearts bound from them. How long has it been since this spell has been cast?"
The name 'Sora' held no meaning to her, and yet he spoke it as if it were the name of someone of great power and reverence. It wasn't one that Y'shtola knew though, which was... curious, she supposed. Interested that it seemed like one keyblade wielder had been responsible for so many worlds, and yet her own world had its own.
"There are countless worlds, more than a single person could ever hope to protect. Ere it could be as simple as he missed it, or even that the damage was done after his heart was locked away." A beat, and a pointed look in the direction of the other. It might have seemed strange to him, but there was no denying that her world was gone.
Herself along with it.
Heartless..."I know what they are." A darker tone slipped to edge her voice. "Foul creatures." Y'shtola shook her head at the rest of his statement, not wanting to outright contradict him, but--
"The victims aren't gone for good... provided there is something left. Creation, destruction... everything requires energy, and pieces of the original are lost every time a heart is torn. Not everyone who is attacked by a heartless can be saved. Were that I wish that statement wasn't true... but should the heart truly be devoured, there's nothing left to be restored."
Post by Data Roxas/Zola on Oct 15, 2017 0:10:40 GMT
"Two years since I fled my digital world as it was being altered like everyone else's memories. I've only found this world in the past few weeks." said Zola.
Zola sighed.
"I guess it was naieve to hope everything was restored after the keyholes were stopped. Heartless and Nobodies are still attacking worlds even with the keyholes sealed. So the danger is still there." said Zola.
Zola blinks at her in suprise.
"There's chances victims might not return? I just thought they'd come back when we wiped out all the Heartless and Nobodies. That's awful." said Zola.
The shock that some were beyond saving and others in the future could suffer that same fate. He would try to keep those numbers as low as he could.

She smiled grimly, hardly pleased to be the bearer of such terrible news to one who sounded so young. Age didn't define the warrior, and age didn't stop tragedy from happening, but that didn't mean she took any pleasure in ruining what little innocence a soldier may have had left.
"It is why those who can wield the keyblade are so important. There is only so much I can do, even with the magic I possess. I can destroy the monsters but I cannot truly end them; only a keyblade can do that."
Which was slowly starting to make their course of action very clear to her.
The cat-eared woman nodded, tail flicking light behind her. "I'll ensure that there are no more incidents with the heartless in this world. You must do all you can to awaken those who can wield the keyblades. I fear we both are rapidly running out of time... hesitation will no longer be your friend, but your enemy."
She could empathize. It wasn't just risking them not believing him, it was risking that they would and, in turn, they would wind up back in danger. Being given the decision to allow those she held dear to live a clueless life of peace or to drag them back into battle would be one that Y'shtola knew she would struggle with herself, but it was clear that there was only one correct answer in this situation. The wielders were needed.
